Recovery from LASIK varies depending on the type of procedure, your vision condition, the extent of corneal reshaping necessary and your overall health.

While some patients see clearly immediately after surgery, others require a few days for their vision to stabilize. Although recovery rarely involves discomfort, you may experience light sensitivity, dry eyes and mild soreness.

Your eyes will begin to heal as soon as your procedure is finished. You may need to wear an eye shield or sunglasses and use special eye drops for the first few days following your surgery. You should avoid activities that could cause trauma to your eyes. It is also important to avoid rubbing or applying pressure to your eyes during these first few days.

Work can generally be resumed after two days. Strenuous exercise and activities that may cause your eyes to become wet such as swimming or sitting in a hot tub should also be avoided until cleared by your ophthalmologist.
